Friend to Animals

Friend to Animals
Petspatch
Today we worked on my Friends to Animals patch.
We started by donating the  blankets and chew toys that we made to the rescue puppies.
They are super cute and cuddly!
They really enjoyed the chew toys.
Joseph said they would get the blankets at bedtime.
I even got to hold the boy, Wilbur.
Then I spent some time reading to the puppies.
I read Splatt! it's my favorite book!
and I read I lost my Sock!
look the puppies are totally listening to me!
Then I got to hold Valentine.
She really likes the chewtoys too!
Today I made a chart of everything that we need to do during the week for our pets.
the fish are easier to take care of than Harry our Bunny but we can pet Harry.

The last thing I did for this patch was to earn the Watching Wildlife Patch, you can see what adventures this badge took me on at

Watching Wildlife

Watching Wildlife

                                   Watching wildlife try-it

I had a good time earning my Watching Wildlife Patch, it's a retired try it.
I spent some time today examining the Ants.
We looked around for ants at the skate park but we didn't find any there so after a scooted around a bit we went over to the outdoor skating rink and looked for some there.
we actually found some! Hooray!
I decided to do an experiment, I crumbled up a cracker and a potato chip and placed them near the ants to see what the would do.
They started to pick up the food (even the really big bits) and haul them away. They liked the cracker more than the chip.

The next thing I did for this badge was the Animal Grocery store.

Animals don't have a grocery store to go to but they do have a grocery list.
This is the list I made for Spiders Rabbits and Worms.
Birds can change there colors through the seasons. This Robin like to hang out in our apple tree.
The First picture is in April and the second one is in May. His chest feathers are getting redder as the season changes!
The next thing I did was watch some worms.
Mom went out this morning and dug up a couple of worms for me to look at.
They were soft and smooth though when I looked at them with my magnifying glass I saw they  had little ridges on them. Mom says it helps them to move.
Then I took a flashlight and shined it on them. I could definitely tell which one was the head  when I did that. It tried to get away from the light! I couldn't see any eyes but they could definitely see the light. Mom says they have light sensory organs.
I like to play with worms. They aren't at all slimy like some people say they are. You do have to keep them moist though or their skin will dry out and they will die if that happens.
Animals are fun and interesting. They all seem to have their own language. if you spend some time watching them you can see them talking to each other. if you are lucky they might even talk to you.

Some examples of animals talking are:
When an ant uses it's antenna to communicate with other ants where food is.
Rabbits thump to get attention, they might use thumping to signal fear, or as a warning to others at something seen or heard.
The White tailed deer uses it's tail to signal danger to others in it's herd.

Animals are really interesting and I enjoy watching them. You should always be careful when watching or interacting with wildlife because they don't have the same rules we do.

Girl Power at the Derby Brownie Try It

Girl Power at the Derby Brownie Try It

To earn this Badge I :
I talked to my dad about when he entered the Pinewood Derby. I also talked to my friend Joseph
about his car.

My dad and I went over basic woodworking safety before I could even begin working on my car and we went over it again just now as we were getting ready to post my badge work just to be on the safe side. There really weren't any good picture taking opportunities though as my dad doesn't like his picture taken and it was really just him talking to me and asking me questions.

I made a Pine wood Derby car with my Dad
We worked on it together. He showed me how to safely form the car using wood tools and sandpaper.
Then we 3D printed a cut which I glued on to the car. I wanted a cat themed car.

I went to a Pinewood Derby Event

and Entered my car in the Derby!

I had a lot of fun and
I got 4th place in my section. I was disappointed that I didn't win but I did my best to be a good sportsman and congratulated the winners.

Princess for a Day

Princess for a Day

Today I earned a Princess for a Day Patch! It was a lot of fun!
I got to decorate a Princess Accessory Holder.
First I painted it with Chalkboard paint, then I had to wait for it to dry and do a second coat.
While I was waiting I did a coloring and word search page.
Then I made Princess Pudding! (White Chocolate Pudding that I dyed Pink)
Afterwords I could decorate my Princess Bucket.
I added ribbons, confetti and buttons.
During all of this I also took the time to learn how to Curtsy like a Princess. So if you see me feel free to ask me to show you a proper Princess Curtsy.
After I finished my projects we watched the Princess and the Pea.
Then we played the Princess and the Pea game. I found the big pea without a problem,
but I didn't find the little pea.
Overall it was a really fun day, I can't wait to see what I can do tomorrow!

A Nature Hike, a New Museum exhibit and a Forge in!
It's been a long weekend and it's not even over yet! I have had a lot of fun and wanted to share some of it with you.
Yesterday we went on a Nature Hike down clear Creek Trail
The Jim Gatchell Museum puts on a program for the local home schoolers once a month
This was the last one for the school year
Mr. Jeb Taylor talked to us about different plants along the trail.
I didn't know plants could be so useful
This one is good for making rope and twine!
There are also a lot of edible plants on the trail.
 Like Currants and Gooseberries!
The weather wasn't the best for a hike though
 It was chilly and misty.
We did get to see this awsome family of Geese though!
I also got to pick a Lamb's Quarters switch. It was a great day.

Today we went to the unveiling of a new exhibit at the Museum.
We aren't supposed to take pictures of the exhibits so here are a couple of me in the recreated jail coach. You will have to come to the Jim Gatchell Museum yourself to see all the neat stuff!
Then We went to a Forge in!
My dad has been there all weekend.
He's learning to make a leafing hammer.
and making lots of new friends.
He came home last night tired but happy!
We were visitors so we weren't allowed to cross the yellow line for safety reasons.
This is what a leafing hammer looks like (I had to ask)
This kids stoking a coal forge.
My dad is working on building a forge and a foundry in our back yard
Once it's done I can start learning the basics
I think it will be fun to learn how to make my own tools
I wonder if there is a blacksmithing patch...

What did you think about my weekend?
I had a lot of fun.
I wonder what we will do tomorrow.
Any suggestions?
