My Promise, My Faith

This is my work from the My promise, My faith Pin

The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.

I chose the line make the world a better place to focus on for this project. Because I think you should always stop and help.

I asked a family friend how she tries to make the world a better place in her life. She said  "I Try to make the world a better place by helping make sure people have enough to eat and get the things that they need."
Then she read me the Story of the Good Samaritan.

Luke 10:25-37 New International Version (NIV)

The Parable of the Good Samaritan

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

I also asked her to help me live the Law in my Faith.

Outdoor Art Creator

Outdoor Art Creator

This is what I did in order to earn my Outdoor Art Creator Badge:
Go on a nature detective walk. You can do this in a park, on a trail, or in your backyard. Look through a tube from a paper towel roll to focus on things close or far away. Spot at least three things from the list on the side of this page. Just observe and make a check mark next to the item you find—don’t collect or touch anything!
Spot at least three things from the list below. Don’t collect or touch anything—just observe and make a check mark next to the item you find!
 An animal
We had to drive around to even find an animal, we finally saw some horses in someone's yard. No pics though.
 A plant not colored green

 A tree with flowers
It's not quite that time of year yet. We just started getting the dandelions.
 An insect

A bird (do you know what kind it is?)
Canadian Geese
A fallen leaf with a pattern you like

A rock with an unusual shape
Scoria Rock
A bush as tall as you are
This bush hasn't gotten it's new leaves yet but it is as tall  (taller) as me!
 A pine-cone or acorn
This was my original pine cone, then I saw this super cute baby pine cone and had to get a pic!

Colored moss growing on a rock or tree
I think if our area had any right now it would have been by cClear Creek where we were looking, but I couldn't find any
More fun stuff you find (write what it is)
There was also this cool sign on the trail.

For the second step of this badge I decided to make little sachets for my friends.
I recycled an old t-shirt
then I put some essential oil on a cotton ball and wrapped it up with a piece of string.
I think it smells really good.
Here I am giving one of my sachets to Mrs. Katie.
She was very happy with her gift, she said it smelled wonderful.

For step 3, I made a wind chime.
I used some old wooden circles for my chimes.
I strung them on some string
and when I was done they clinked together .
 They make a soft noise,
not a loud and annoying noise,
Which my father really appreciates.

For step 4: I decided to take some pictures while pretending to be a butterfly.
When you look at nature and a deer it makes nature look pretty.
Even if there is no leaves on the trees, it is still pretty.
Flower are pretty and so colorful. As a butterfly, I drink the nectar out of them.
Sometimes thy're purple, pink and yellow.
I think they are pretty in all their shapes and sizes.
Sheep are cute.
The End

For Step 5: I chose to create a mini garden. When everything starts to out grow this mini garden planter, I will move it to the raised garden boxes my mom made last summer.
Here I am planting cress, zinnias and peas.

Now that I have earned this badge I am inspired to donate some of the food that I grow in my garden to my community food pantry.

Cloud Peak Art Exhibition

Cloud Peak Art Exhibition

So I went to my first art show, okay well my mom says it wasn't my first but since I don't remember any other ones I'm going to say it's my first.
The first thing I saw when I walked through the door was a booth where I could make my own art!
I really enjoyed making a painting of a cat. I love cats.
My cat is gold, it's hard to see in the picture but I liked it.

I got to meet some of the great artists while I was there.

There were a lot of different types of art on display there.

There were paintings, photography, pottery, even quilts!

Everybody received a little piece of paper when they came in so that they could vote for their favorite piece of art. My Favorite was made by Mrs. Louise.
It is a painting of a Kitty called UH OH.  Did I mention I like cats?
This is a picture is of some cool pots that were there.

I even got to see a demonstration of someone making pottery, I would really like to learn more about pottery making.

I also go to get down to some great tunes.
Over all I really enjoyed the Art Show and hope to go to another soon.

Heart Mountain

A few weekends ago we went to the Heart Mountain Relocation Center.

I didn't know what heart mountain was when I went. I found out that it was a prison for Japanese Americans during WWII. Their crime? Having a Japanese Heritage.

The Heart Mountain Relocation Center opened in August 1942 and imprisoned more than 14,000 people during its three-year existence. The last incarcerees left the Heart Mountain Relocation Center in November, 1945.

In August of 2011, the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation opened its doors to the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center, a world-class museum dedicated to passing on the Heart Mountain story to future generations. Through photographs, artifacts, oral histories and the interactive exhibits, guests to the Center experience life at Heart Mountain through the eyes of those Japanese and Japanese Americans that were confined here during WWII. The Center provides an overview of the wartime relocation of Japanese Americans, including the background history of anti-Asian prejudice in America and the factors leading to their enforced relocation and confinement. Special emphasis is given to the experience of incarceration, the diverse personal responses of Japanese Americans to their imprisonment, constitutional issues, violations of civil liberties and civil rights, and the broader issues of race and social justice in the U.S.
I find it hard to believe that our country would do this to it's own citizens, yes most of these people were American Citizens, born in the US. It is true and this wasn't the only internment camp, I mean relocation center...

"Racism, under whatever justification its supporters can find, is still racism. It goes against what makes us all Americans. There is no racial or religious test for being an American. We should not start one now."

 - USA TODAY

The people in these camps tried their best to go on with everyday life.
There were even Girl Scouts at Heart Mountain, I look about as happy as they do in this picture.
After a couple of years the US Government decided to let Japanese Americans join the fight. Their unit was segregated however and it grew to be the most decorated unit in the war.

Most of the relocated residents of the camps lost everything they owned.

The lights in the picture below represent the camps that Japanese American were sent to.

SAVE-A-BARRACK*

Black & White Barrack
A complete, full-length barrack built at the “Heart Mountain Relocation Center” during World War II has come “home” to the National Historic Landmark site. With a tremendous response from individual donors and organizations, the barrack has been rescued from demolition near Shell, WY—about 80 miles from Heart Mountain.
After being moved from Heart Mountain, it was one of several barracks that the city of Greybull used for veteran’s housing. It endured another move to the ISU geology field station in 1958. Because it has been cut into three sections during these two previous moves, the building had to be moved back to Heart Mountain in three pieces to ensure its structural integrity. To maintain historical accuracy at the Heart Mountain site, the barrack has returned to where there once stood five barracks as part of the Military Police complex.
It will now remain a fixture of the landscape that can speak not only to the Japanese American confinement during World War II but the extended Big Horn Basin history.
If it so moves you, please donate to the save a Barrack fund, I believe everyone should know about Heart Mountain and the other Relocation Centers so that it never happens again.
